How to Add Your Cycle Phases to Apple Calendar on iPhone

🍎

If your days already live in Apple Calendar, that’s the best place to see your cycle too. When your phases sit next to your plans, you can spot at a glance that a big presentation falls on day 2 of your period, or that a free weekend lines up with your follicular phase.

Apple doesn’t do this on its own, though. Below: why, the manual workaround, and how to get all four phases into Apple Calendar automatically.

Doesn’t the iPhone Already Track My Cycle?

Yes and no. The Health app has Cycle Tracking: you can log your period and see predictions. But those predictions stay inside Health. They don’t appear in Apple Calendar, and Health shows your period and fertile window, not the menstrual, follicular, ovulatory and luteal phases that cycle syncing is built on. (New to the phases? Start with what cycle syncing is.)

The Manual Way: Repeating Events

You can fake it with Apple Calendar’s own tools:

  1. Make a new calendar called “Cycle” so these events stay separate from the rest.
  2. On the first day of your period, add an all-day event called “Period” and set it to repeat every 28 days (or your average length) with Custom repeat.
  3. Add more repeating events for the other phases if you want them.

It’s free and it works for a month or two. The trouble is that cycles aren’t a fixed number of days. As soon as one cycle is shorter or longer, every repeat after it lands on the wrong days, and you’re back to editing events by hand.

The Automatic Way: Kilova on iPhone

Kilova works out your four phases from your periods and writes them straight into Apple Calendar. When you log a new period, the dates move with it.

Here’s how to set it up:

  1. Download Kilova from the App Store and create your account. Add your last period and your average cycle length.
  2. Open your Profile and tap Sync Calendars. Under Apple Calendar, tap Add to this iPhone.
  3. Allow calendar access when your iPhone asks. Kilova needs it to write your phases into your calendar.
  4. Choose what goes in. “Show cycle phases on Apple Calendar” adds your phases, and “Show tasks and events on Apple Calendar” adds what you plan in Kilova too. Turn either one off at any time.

Kilova adds four calendars to Apple Calendar, one for each phase in its own colour (Kilova · Menstrual, Kilova · Follicular, and so on). Your tasks and events go in the calendar of the phase their day falls in, so your whole week is coloured by phase.

If you use iCloud, these calendars show up on your Mac, iPad and Apple Watch too, with nothing else to set up.

Good to Know

  • It goes one way. Kilova writes into Apple Calendar; changes you make to those events in Apple Calendar don’t come back to Kilova. Plan and edit in Kilova, and see it everywhere.
  • It updates when you open Kilova or change something in it, and covers the next months ahead.
  • Said no to calendar access? Open your iPhone’s Settings, find Kilova, allow Calendars, and tap Add to this iPhone again. (Kilova also offers to open Settings for you.)
  • Calendar sync is part of Premium, and every new account gets 2 months of Premium free.
  • Not on an iPhone? Kilova also syncs with Google Calendar and Outlook, on Android and on the web.

What to Do Once Your Phases Are There

  • Plan by phase. Book demanding work and harder workouts on days that suit you, and keep lighter plans for the days that don’t. Everyone’s pattern is a little different, so watch your own over a few cycles.
  • Let routines repeat by phase. In Kilova, Phase repeat makes a task come back in a chosen phase every cycle, and Phase Presets add ready-made routines like Yoga, Strength or Period Prep with one tap. They all land in Apple Calendar on the right days.
  • Prepare for your period. Seeing it coming a few days ahead is often enough to move a heavy day or restock what you need.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Apple Health put my period in Apple Calendar? No. Cycle Tracking predictions stay inside the Health app. To see your cycle in Calendar you need repeating events or an app that writes to Calendar, like Kilova.

Will my cycle show on my Mac and Apple Watch? Yes, if your Apple Calendar uses iCloud. Kilova’s calendars sync to your other Apple devices like any other calendar.

Can people I share my calendar with see my phases? Only if you share Kilova’s calendars with them. They’re separate calendars, so your shared calendars stay as they are.

Does it work on iPad? Yes. On an iPad the button reads Add to this iPad.

Your Cycle, Where You Already Look

Keeping your cycle in one app and your plans in another means you only see one of them at a time. Bringing your phases into Apple Calendar puts both in the same place. Get Kilova for iPhone and see your month, phases and all, in the calendar you already use.
